Description

This antique Victorian Sterling Silver Monteith Bowl is beautifully crafted in the George III style of the late 19th century. It is of typical form with half fluted body chased with pendant ribbon tied laurel swags, detachable rim with cast, chased and engraved rim with maskheads alternating with double gadroon scrolls. The whole bowl is raised on fluted, circular pedestal foot. A beautiful gilt interior, the body engraved with griffin crests on each side. Made by James Garrard, dated 1886. Weight: 67 Troy ounces. Fully hallmarked. Lovely patina. Although this Monteith is in the George III style, it still has certain characteristics that make it synonymous to the Victorian period. The body is classic Georgian. However, the mask head detachable rim is classic Victorian in nature. Today this bowl would be the focal point of any dining room, whether placed on a sideboard, or used as a table centerpiece.
