Oval agate cameo in two layers, opaque white on a background of beige translucent chalcedony. The subject is carved the goddess Victory, kneeling, employed to write the exploits of a hero on a round shield. A stylized tree adorns the stage for making, in the composition, the Wings of Victory. The subject is beautifully, both in the composition in detail. The clothing which the artist has taken the goddess can probably date the cameo of the first half of the 18th century. By comparison, the same subject represented by Mariette in 1750, the goddess is naked (P.-J. Mariette, Traite engraved stones, 1750. Ref. CXVII). Excellent original condition. Probably Italy, first half 18th century. mount a brooch
