GIUSEPPE BEZZUOLI (Firenze 1784 – 1855). Venere nella conchiglia. Olio su tavola. Il dipinto, contraddistinto da una raffinatezza esecutiva che risalta nelle piccole dimensioni e dal supporto che esalta i colori conferendogli un prezioso tono smaltato, rappresenta una significativa aggiunta al catalogo di Giuseppe Bezzuoli, dominatore della scena pittorica a Firenze negli anni del Romanticismo. L'attribuzioni al maestro fiorentino e la sua datazione tra gli anni Trenta e Quaranta dell'Ottocento trova conferma nel puntuale confronto con altri quadri di carattere erotico riuniti da Gian Lorenzo Mellini attorno al capolavoro rappresentato da Amore che vince la forza (Firenze, collezione privata; del quale esiste una diversa versione a Milano, collezione privata) e all'Eva tentata dal serpente di ubicazione sconosciuta (G. L. Mellini, Bezzuoli pittore emblematico e Nuove considerazioni su Bezzuoli, in Notti romane e altre congiunture pittoriche tra Sette e Ottocento, Firenze, Vallecchi Editore, 1992, pp. 357-371, figg. 182-190).
Se la soluzione del nudo ripreso di schiena rimanda, infatti, a quello della Eva, confermando l'attenzione dimostrata da Bezzuoli per la pittura del Cinquecento veneto, l'Amorino alato, rappresentato con particolare brio mentre tiene le redini della colomba stando in equilibrio sul bordo della conchiglia, ricorda molto quelli che giocano nelle due versioni di Amore che vince la forza, testimoniando in questo caso il gusto per la grande tradizione pittorica del Seicento classicista ed in particolare per Francesco Albani insuperato modello di queste eleganti evocazioni mitologiche.

Giuseppe Bezzuoli (28 November 1784 – 13 September 1855) was an Italian painter of the Neoclassic period, active in Milan, Rome, and his native city of Florence.
