Description Original text : Original text (Automatic translation)
This amazing and highly important marble specimen table is comprised of 97 different species of marble, extending to a length of nearly 11 feet. This matchless top is considered by many to be the finest marble surface ever created. The marble itself is two inches deep and supported by an exuberantly carved oak base with bronze mounts. It is estimated that 86 of the 97 different marbles displayed on this remarkable Italian Renaissance-style table can no longer be mined and therefore, are extinct. Most notably, the marble types include Portoro Veneri, whose quarry was used almost exclusively for the Vatican and Griotti Uni, whose quarry was used almost exclusively for Versailles Palace.

Circa 1890

Provenance:
Formerly the property of Manheim Galleries, New Orleans

Price: $550,000
