Ray Waterhouse, expert in modern paintings
Ray WATERHOUSE, the World acknowledged expert on impressionist and modern art, explains that there are many reasons for collecting art: enjoyment of looking, pleasure of ownership, diversion from one's normal looking life, prestige of patronage, social aspects of the art scene, cultural education, and investment, but still the most important reason for buying is decorating one's walls.

Because of the global financial crisis, WATERHOUSE predicts that the art market should see a thirty percent reduction in the number of its established buyers, but that will be partially offset by fifteen percent of new attracted by lower prices and opportunities.

WATERHOUSE has his main gallery in London with his business partner Jonathan DODD, and they also have offices in Paris and New-York. WATERHOUSE has 34 years experience of the international art market and exhibits at TEFAF Maastricht, Palm Beach and New-York. Here in ARTFINDING's exclusive interview, he discusses the state of the market and offers suggestions about collecting art.
