Boulakia, expert in Modern & Contemporary art

Boulakia, expert in Modern & Contemporary art

The Boulakia Galleryis specialized in Modern and Contemporary Art, especially modern and impressionism. "What I like about my profession is to be surrounded by the major works of the 20th century that reflect all the movements of the creation of the 2Oth century: Monet, Pissaro or Renoir, and after Picasso and Chagall. It's a very stimulating environment", says Daniel Boulakia.

To overcome the rarefaction of the major works, the Boulakia Gallery manages to find herself as an old gallery well established, so they have their stock since a long time that is always supplied, they are always trying to make up with the works of the same painter. "It's rather difficult, we should never lose the market. I mean when you sell a work of art, you should try to buy back it very quickly as not to be paralyzed by the new price. You should be very active and buy back the painters that you sold", says Daniel Boulakia.

On the art market we can say that the “big signatures” of the 20th century is no more the term of the school, but all the big signatures of all the schools of the beginning of the 20th century, the end of the 19th century as, for example, the impressionists, the big impressionists like Monet, Renoir, Sisley, Pissarro, are very searched for by collectors, their works are museum quality. There are also all the schools of cubism, it's very rare the big cubists: Picasso, Braque, Juan Gris who are followed by the less-known cubists like Metzinger, Marcoussis, Gleizes. These painters aren't minor, they're important, in their works we can find the idea of the big painters, their professors who were Picasso, Braque, Juan Gris.

Modern and Contemporary Art collectors are coming from all over the World. "We're waiting for China with impatience. And the Russians return with the petrol that is recovering. I think that the Americans and the Europeans are still very present as amateurs and important actors on the art market. Only the Japanese have a bit disappeared, they were shaken a lot at the end of the 80s but they return with exceptional works", says Daniel Boulakia.

For the gallery manager, "they're still some under-estimated painters like Wesselmann that is a part of the great American painters of the 60-70s, he was with his fellow-artists as Warhol, Liechtenstein and others. I think we can envisage investing in Wesselmann and having big surprises in the future".
