Cesare Lampronti, Old Masters Paintings specialist

Cesare Lampronti, Old Masters Paintings specialist

Cesare Lampronti has been a dealer for 50 years, and is specialized in Old Master Paintings from the 15th to the 18th Century. Among all the Italian schools, collectors are mostly into 18th Century Venetian vedutes (views) with artists such as Canaletto, Bellotto, Bardi... and also into Roman vedutes with artists such as Vanvitelli and Panini. Damiano Lapiccirella agrees with this point of view, since he believes that among all the Italian schools, the Venitian one is clearly leading the market. Nevertheless, Damiano Lapiccirella also believes that the Neapolitan 17th Century school is also very searched for by many collectors.

For Cesare Lampronti, the difference between Italian pictures and French or Flemish ones is that besides the technique, it brings a stronger emotion. The Flemish pictures are mostly based on individual technique and the paintings' analysis rather than on the emotion. In deed, Flemish Old Masters are well known for their perfect technique - as a reminder, Early Netherlandish artists have invented the oil painting technique - while Italian ones are collected for their sensibility and lyricism.

Cesare Lampronti answers to the Artfinding's exclusive interview about his specialty and vision of the art market for Italian Old Masters Paintings.

  • Italy4Ever (2011-01-17) Report to moderator Italian Old Masters will lead the market as they did during the 50 past years. No other school has yet manage to give such an emotion. Dutch cows?! French kings?! English war scenes?! Venitian vedutes are so much over any other style. If you buy a great Italian old master painting today, you will definitely be able to sell it more - or at least the same price - in 10, 20 or 50 year.
