The Zada Gallery possesses a wide collection of ancient decorative carpets from the 19th century and tapestries from the 16th to the 18th century. The workshops provide the promptest possible after-sales service, such as the repair and restoration of carpets and tapestries in the traditional method of hand-weaving.
What Michael Zada likes so much about antique carpets and tapestries is that "as Edgar Allan Poe used to say, a carpet is the soul of an interior".
Among all the carpets the collectors are mostly looking for Ziegler Mahal ones. This kind of carpets made in the 19th Century in Iran have designs made by Europeans but produced in the Middle East. Such pieces were immediately sent over Europe by a shipping company that actually still exists: Ziegler. For antique carpets, the French Beauvais and Gobelins pieces are the finest man could ever find. "The ones I like best are the ones from Brussels, because they were leader of the market from the 15th to the 17th Century", says Michael Zada.
"Our clients are mainly coming from Europe: England, France, Belgium, Germany and Italy", says Michael Zada. Since a few years, emerging countries such as Russia, Ukraine and a little from China are also buying tapestries or carpets. Considering the Middle-Eastern market, "we don't deal much with them, since they obviously believe they can find better deals in the Middle-East, where these carpets have been made; but we do have chances for the tapestries".
Emmanuel Zada is affiliated with the Royal Chamber of the Belgian Antique Dealers and the Belgian Chamber of Art Experts which vouch for the knowledge and expertise of their members as well as the high quality of their pieces. Recently, the gallery opened a new department with modern tapestries created by artists from 1930 to 1985.
